In Meru County, female smallholders often work the land but reap little benefit due to exploitative middlemen. Sisters stepped in to organize them into an agricultural cooperative, training them in sustainable farming, post-harvest management, and direct market negotiations.
The cooperative has increased average household incomes by 40%, enabling mothers to pay school fees and invest in healthcare. "Before, we were beggars on our own soil. Now, we are business owners," says a local beneficiary.
